We were just getting ready to say goodbye to warm weathers
Preparing our voices to sing as we commemorate the hammer that stamped the nails on Jesus hands and feet
Some were planning to take long trips to be with their loved ones for Easter weekend
Graduations, birthday parties, were some of the planned activities
Until one very China moment turned everything upside down
Turning our homes into jails with no clear indication as to how long the sentence was gonna be
It's funny how things can change for the worst in a very short moment
I understand now when they say seize the opportunity
Because everything, every opportunity you have might just disappear in a moment
We had a chance to kiss them, probably more than we had to
To touch them more than we should, to hug and hold each other tightly, so close
We had a chance to look at each other on the face
I mean full face, not half masked face and admire their beauty when they are
To smile at each other even when we were not funny
Just admiration of each other's beautiful faces
To talk freely without worrying about getting each other sick
When spending time with everyone was never an issue
In fact, when you were looking forward to seeing people for the first time after a while
Irrespective of where they have been, China/Italy/Spain/America or just Cape town/Eastern Cape/KZN
When locking yourself inside, hiding away from everyone was just a norm for introverts only
Until one very China moment that turned everything upside down
The only thing that seems so original coming from that country, if you’re not one of those who ask more questions
There’s so many “why’s” and “how's” but we ask them behind closed doors
I hope when this is all over, you normalize spending time with those you care about
Kissing that boy/girl you’ve been thinking of becomes the first thing you do
Hugging everybody who deserves it, hold hands with everyone with pride becomes your thing
Visiting those you haven't seen for a while jumps to the top in your to do list
Because you never know what's coming next
