Before I sleep, I take time to think about the things I had intended to do for the day. I count all those that I’ve done, taking note of the status of each, whether it’s completed or not, all those I couldn’t do and the reason behind that
I take a moment to thank the higher power for everything I've done successfully, but I always take a moment to forgive myself for everything, that wasn’t done or done not to the level of my expectations, and that’s what keeps me going. It’s because I know I’ve done my best each day, and I still have a chance to try again the next day
That’s credit to a very good friend of mine, she gave me that strategy and it works so well for me. She says before you go to bed, take a moment to reflect on your day, think about what you did, what you didn’t do, and accept your shortfalls. Put your mind at peace, then you can go to sleep
I adopted it and it works marvelously, and I suggest you try it too. If you’re much of a reader, read something that will motivate you, give you comfort that you’ve tried your best, you’ve done enough for that specific day
The same applies, if you a religious person, read a verse that will make you content about yourself, that will lift your spirit, take off any doubts that you somehow failed yourself because there are only so many hours in a day and you can only do so much with one body and one mind attached to it
Watch that one episode from that series you love, call that person you care about, have a conversation with that someone who makes everything all right, dance to your favorite music, put it down in that diary, lie down peacefully with no interruptions, take a very long bath, smoke that joint, you deserve it. Just do something that will free up your mind, and help you understand that there’s always the next day to carry on from where you left off
You’ll disappoint yourself, you’ll let others down. You’ll get hurt, you will hurt others, but all that is part of the journey. At the end of it all, take a moment to do something that will help you understand and accept that you are only human, put your heart at ease and go to bed looking forward to the next day
It’s all about one day at a time, one day at a time
