Itold a very special friend of mine that for the past couple of years, I haven’t done anything that didn’t have the potential to somehow make me money in the end, even if it was just a little, or everything ended in failure. Still, the idea was to make money irrespective of the outcome, and that wasn’t fulfilling at all because the thing about money is, there’s always more that needs to be made. You just never have enough because the more you make, the more the need for more arises
I told her that I wanted to do more of the things that had nothing to do with making money, only the things that refresh the mind, focus on everything that helps me forget about bills, surround myself more with people that make me forget about the need to make money, to work extra hard because I’ve been reading about the benefits of that
More often, we find ourselves chasing things that we hope will add value to our lives, but sometimes it’s those we ignore that make a huge impact instead, like those little things we already have. Think about that smile on your child's face when they see you, when they walk out of the school gate to see you waiting for them. Having a home, an ability to set your own standards. That's something to be grateful for
I’m the kind of person who, when facing a new challenge, struggling to move forward, or just feeling exhausted, takes a day off, unplanned, and heals himself through music and good movies. I just decide that “today I’m not going anywhere” and I’ll use that day to reflect, plan my next move, while trying to find solutions to my problems, but I always realize the same things, in fact, the same things pop up again and again
All the best moments in my life were those that I was not worried about the next day, when I was surrounded by people who only care about being alive, who only appreciate the little things they have
I always realize that I was happier when I was sitting in front of the TV, but not watching anything, just listening to music, even when I was, I was just watching something that makes one realize the value of being alive, happy, and healthy
I always realize that the most meaningful times were those I was talking to you, the person I know and care about. Just talking about things that speak about loving yourself, looking after yourself, and those who matter the most to you
All the times I was able to go an extra mile, I was at peace. I was able to keep the conversation going, explain in detail, make an argument, remained calm even when conditions didn’t favor that, I was happy
All the creativity came because I was at peace, I was able to cancel out the noise. Just focus and pay attention to what needed to be achieved
I was not chasing more of anything, but just at ease, no pressure, and that makes me think, maybe more isn’t really a solution. Rather be at peace and be happy with what you have
We always have this pressure we put on ourselves. To look good, appear as the person that has it all under control, but all that doesn’t matter if it’s not the reflection of what’s going on inside you, because at the end of each day, it’s you and the walls you surround yourself with, and how you really feel always shows up in different ways
I was home when Tshidi Madia passed (may her soul rest in peace), so when I’m there, I don’t get to listen to the radio because I prefer talk radio, which happens to be Radio 702 at this stage. So when I’m outside Gauteng, I don’t have access to, and it's also the only time I get to completely switch off, as the internet connectivity is also poor, so I don’t mind, hence I don’t switch over to Power or SA fm or listen on their App. The whole thing helps me stay offline except for making and taking calls, reply to a few messages when time allows
But visiting a family house, I saw on the news condolences to the journalist with her picture on the screen. It was kind of strange because I was just listening to her before I left, and that to me was a reminder that we may be here for one moment, the next we’re not
That moment made me evaluate a number of things about myself. It became clear to me that you might be out there, busy chasing things you think you need, the next thing, boom, you’re gone
Here’s what I think, there is no right or wrong way of living your life, but a life worth living is the one spent doing things that made you happy, put your life at ease, even when the wind was blowing the most, difficult times were on your doorstep. That is life, because in my experience, even the most difficult things feel lighter when you’re happy
Let’s appreciate the moments that get us thinking about the most wonderful things, the most refreshing moments of our lives, and do more of what we love than chasing endless things
Its ok to chase money, friends, and everything else that takes most of our time as humans, but let’s make sure that none of those take us away from things that really matter
Let’s fight to have peace in ourselves, to have satisfaction, closure, understanding that sometimes the little things we have are enough, are what we need more
“It's all about one day at a time, one day at a time”
